"The Art of Love' is a modern take on Love, with contributions raging from a page 3-style Venus by Christian Furr (left), which is a portrait of the model Petta Longstaff, to a photograph of what is, quite literally a grated heart."

Christian Furr was commissioned by Robinsons to produce a commemorative work of Art featuring Tim Henman and Fred Perry for Wimbledon this year. The queing public recreated the image on a giant canvas in June 05 at Wimbledon.

The Lost Art ( John Blake, £12.99 ) is a how-to-do-it drawing and painting book by portrait artist Christian Furr , who recently co-presented ITV's portrait painting competition A Brush With Fame and is the youngest painter to have officially painted the Queen. Readable in a couple of hours, it provides useful tips on how beginners and amateurs alike can avoid the most common pitfalls associated especially with drawing. It also sidesteps the failings of many such manuals in presenting information so densely and dauntingly that skills are made to seem more difficult to acquire than is the case. Perhaps its best lesson is the encouragement it gives to everyone to look carefully before starting.' – David Lee , editor of ‘The Jackdaw'

THE LOST ART
"Ordinary people being creative is a cause which Furr champions. 'In Victorian times,' he says,'it was a normal thing for people to carry a sketchbook around with them. That hardly ever happens now. I'd like to help bring that idea back.'

Furr's own art practise blends traditional artistic virtues - the representation of the human figure and a well-grounded knowledge of the Old Masters - with a keen awareness of contemporary reality. Media culture and celebrity intrude into his work: as subjects for his paintings, but also as a professional sideline."
